APARELHAGENS, in English: equipments, are entirely tuned DJ booth machines. These large structures found there origin in the North of Brazil and more precisely in the region of Pará. APARELHAGENS are usually made out of enameled wood and metal.

PARÁ is one of the states of Brazil, located in the northern part of the country. Its most famous icons are the Amazon River and the Amazon rain forest. Its capital city is Belém.

For many years, DJs from the region of Belem have been making mobile architectural structures to stage electronic music: the aparelhagens . Aparelhagens crystallize the party spectacle and the visual constructions that have emerged out of Tecnobrega's language of electronics and DJ technologies. It clarifies their aesthetic and form, as a symbol of Brazilian peripheral culture that originates in the northern region of Pará , close to the Amazon.

Aparelhagens da Cidade intends to take the aparelhagens from Pará and its periphery and relocate them in Rio and the Sao Paulo Urban centre. The concept is to introduce aparelhagens in the city (cidade), implementing new links between the city and its soundscape.

The project proposes the following questions : How can this peripheral yet local trend profit Brazilian urban centers? And what form and function would the aparelhagens take in order to exist in the urban landscape? How can the culture of aparelhagens identify and provide a fresh perspective on the relationship that exists between the urban center and music ? 
For these reasons, we are introducing a variety of art practices : Aparelhagens da Cidade also will entail an architecture competition for young Brazilian agencies or artists working within the field of experimental architecture to join in the effort to create a visionary aparelhagens da cidade.
