The project’s premise is to start a local and collective debate on the aesthetic and political concepts that are raised by the aparelhagens da cidade. An open architectural competition will be offered to young Brazilian architectural agencies and artists working within the field of experimental architecture, as well as students. The competition will communicate the need for a new kind of “urban furniture”; an urban architecture for peripheral or marginalized cultures expressed through music.

All the proposals that have been submitted for the competition will be examined by a select jury composed of a range of specialists from the art community and Brazilian architectural organizations (i.e. the directors of gallery, a number of Brazilian architects, the fine arts college director, the town council’s board members, and sponsors). The jury will offer an award to the most pertinent proposal, and their design will be realized in the building phase of the Aparelhagens da Cidade in 2010.

Aparelhagens Da Cidade asks participants to explore and exploit the potential of the musical and architecture practices in the urban environment. They are invited to investigate the social and musical customs from the periphery culture to push its potential to conceptualize urban developed ideas. Participant’s proposals and ideas may range from objects, furniture, buildings and architectural details to large structures, landscape interventions.
The presentations should cover explanations on design and construction process, characteristics and properties. Results of these Design and Architecture investigations have to be presented through a PDF document of 3 pages maximum.

Aparelhagens Da Cidade is an initiative by Global heart me. It aims in encouraging practices not only as a means to develop a symbolic urban environments. But also to bring an understanding of the city soundscape, to surpass existing limitations and visions.
